Someone on the list has offered me x number of dollars for an Apple // and a //+. I started working on Apple computers in 1981 in Duluth Minnesota. One thing about the Apple // power supply was that Apple brought a bad batch of power switches which failed at a drop of a hat. Apple had riveted the power supply to make repairs impossible. But being smarter then Apple, I devised a way to get the old switch replaced without drilling the rivets out and voiding their warranty. The trick was to use a putty knife to press in the tabs on each side of the switch and remove it from the end. But I ran across several power supplies with toggle switches which were the earlier // power supplies. I should have kept those supplies but threw them away. At one time I had over 75 bad cold colored Apple power supplies and spent hours trying to fix them. A stroke of luck showed the weakness of the Astec power supplies. They used a 6 volt 10 mf cap between the stages and that cap often opened killling the supply. We started replacing that cap with a 16 volt cap and I repaired over 90% of the dead power supplies. I thought I had it made when Apple introduced the aluminum case power supply. But Apple used a thompson IC which failed in that supply and it was not available as a replacement part thus making my repair knowledge useless. Al
