EU Urges US to Give Up 'Illegal' Online Gambling Ban
The European Union urged the United States on Wednesday to open talks on
scrapping a ban on foreign online gambling companies, saying it breaks global
trade rules. The EU says it could seek compensation from the World Trade
Organization because the 2006 ban unfairly prevents foreign Internet gambling
sites from operating in the United States.

Broadband : Commission consults on regulatory strategy to promote very high
speed Internet
The European Commission has launched a public consultation on its revised
proposals for the regulation of Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband
networks, in the form of a draft Commission Recommendation. A previous public
consultation held during the last quarter of 2008 confirmed general support for
the objective of the Commission to achieve a common regulatory framework for
NGA in order to foster timely investment in very high speed networks while
ensuring that the competitive structure of the market is maintained.

Global telecoms growth stalling
The telecoms service market is beginning to stall, according to research firm
Talegeography. The top 20 global service providers generated $251bn (£152bn) in
revenues during the first three months of 2009, only a three percent increase
since the same period last year. The growth was also not just organic but
bolstered by mergers and acquisitions.

The hidden truth
Every so often, a criminal case jolts the national consciousness: James Bulger,
the Soham murders, Beverley Allitt and the death of Baby P to name just a few.
The mob who gathered outside Plymouth magistrates court yesterday for the
arrival of Vanessa George signalled all too clearly that her story has already
been added to that list.
