Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1
Severity: wishlist
If a package is read from a DVD by aptitude and an error occurs such as hash
sum mismatch, instead of simply failing the install, allow the option to read
the same package from an online repository. As things stand, an awkward
workaround exists to remove reference to the flawed DVD from /etc/apt/apt.conf
but why shouldn't aptitude be able to look elsewhere automatically? The DVD may
still be usable for other packages.

2015-09-24 21:28 To David Jonathan Bush:
Control: tags -1 + moreinfo help
Hi,
2011-01-16 00:00 David Jonathan Bush:
Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1
Severity: wishlist
If a package is read from a DVD by aptitude and an error occurs such as
hash sum mismatch, instead of simply failing the install, allow the
option to read the same package from an online repository. As things
stand, an awkward workaround exists to remove reference to the flawed
DVD from /etc/apt/apt.conf but why shouldn't aptitude be able to look
elsewhere automatically? The DVD may still be usable for other
packages.
The available computers that I have do not have optic media readers, so
I cannot reproduce this, so help to reproduce/confirm (or even fix :-))
is welcome.
I thought that perhaps by adding the online repository in
/etc/apt/sources.list aptitude would pick packages from both places,
isn't this the case?
Closing now, please reopen if you can provide more information or if
this is still an issue with the provided suggestion.
Cheers.
