Package: aptitude
Version: 0.8.4-1
File: /usr/share/man/man8/aptitude-curses.8.gz
The man page needs to be changed to say
-R, --without-recommends
Do not treat recommendations as dependencies when installing new
packages (this overrides settings in /etc/apt/apt.conf and
~/.aptitude/config). Packages previously installed due to
recommendations will not be removed unless
APT::AutoRemove::RecommendsImportant is false.
This corresponds to the configuration option
APT::Install-Recommends.
My man page says:
-R, --without-recommends Do not treat recommendations as
dependencies when installing new packages (this overrides
settings in /etc/apt/apt.conf and
~/.aptitude/config). Packages previously installed due to
recommendations will not be removed.
This corresponds to the pair of configuration options
APT::Install-Recommends and
APT::AutoRemove::RecommendsImportant.
Special attention to the second paragraph. So your bug report seems to
be incorrect when it comes to the version -- the second paragraph that
you quote is not present for more than a decade:
https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/aptitude/aptitude.git/commit/?id=b95223212e4f86d09007f4f33e4498683c313b7c
(the text morphed a bit since then, from Aptitude::Keep-Recommends to
APT::AutoRemove::RecommendsImportant, but I think that the text as
originally quoted always mentioned more than APT::Install-Recommends
since 2007).
In any case, the suggested text is already present, closing.
