| What is the status of the other graphical Dos
| browsers, btw.?
|
| I remember something called "Spin" (or something like
| that)
| which sucked big time. It was a Dutch browser. Then
| there is
| Caldera Webspyder and IBM's Dos browser (forget the
| name). Are
| all those still being worked on?

There are a few browsers that I can't recall at the
moment. However, the following I have tried :

1. DR-Webspyder (Caldera/Lineo)

No longer available except *maybe* for OEM's. Linux
version is available for OEM's - called "Embrowser".
I tried two versions (not sure how many there were).
   V2.00a :
+ Good HTML rendering (better than Arachne 1.50src)
+ Good performance (no ignored data packets from ISP)
+ Good stability (better than previous Arachne versions)
   - No Javascript
   - No printer support
   - Sensitive to other TSR's, etc.
   V2.1b2 :
   - Dialer & PPP didn't work for me (used V2.1b1, OK)
   + Good HTML rendering, performance
   + Printer support
   + Javascript support
   - Sensitive to other TSR's, required DPMI
   - Very unstable

2. Webboy (IBM Japan)

This *is* available in Japan, as far as I can tell (I
can't read Japanese ;-). Version 3 *was* available in
English and Portuguese (perhaps other languages also),
but perhaps no longer ... The main difference between
versions 3 & 4 is Javascript support, as far as I can
   tell.

Unfortunately, the "demo" versions appear to limit you
to 15 minute sessions *and* are off-line (not on-line)
only. This means the "demo" versions are no fun! However,
Webboy seems to be a feature-rich browser and, according
to people that have tried the *real* thing, is very good.

3. Nettamer (sp?, can't recall the author)

A number of people are great fans of this semi-graphical
(?) browser. It is extremely fast and stable (so they
tell me ;-). For me however, this browser was "hate at
first sight", so I have never _really_ used it.

| Anyway, for a graphical browser on Dos there is not
| much
| competetion to Arachne, probably - but there is still
| the Dos
| port of Lynx (I'm using the Doug Kaufman version
| occasionally)
| which is quite useful if you can spare the graphics.

Yes, DOSLYNX is interesting - it's only "alpha/beware",
but despite this, is remarkably stable. Some day I might
try BOBCAT as well ... but I much prefer a graphical
browser. ;-)
