It is a far step between WBAT and windows, isnt it!?
And no, if i should use a real GUI then i use my AMIGA =)
(I like the philosophy "The user decides" found in both dos and amiga,
even if it is a giant step from dos/arachne up to the amiga way..)

It depends, if you are willing to call the dos command echo a bloated
OS with a text mode window manager ... then yes!
But, you would be rather alone about that definition... *BG*
>Why ? Text is text. Html textmode is slow. Have you ever seen an editor

Huh, i didnt mean to call update.dgi to make HTML after every keystroke.
That would be absurd. ;P
(but, Arachne is quite fast compared to M$-word, and m$ even flickers worse.)
- I meant something like my "file/.mpg |@mpeg.exe /B/N/C/R2/2 $1" does when i
run "anime.mpg" with my current screenresolution...
It will show the movie in a small borderless "window" on top of arachne
at the middle of the screen. And, I would like a rewrite of IBASE that would
encourage such programs to be written in a well behaved way.

Hmm, after have playing around a bit with mime.cfg , i would rather say
that all of it would need some structured cleanup.
>What are you thinking of that doesn't already exist in Arachne ?
>Please elaborate.
Actually not much.
All i want is a structured cleanup of mime.cfg, and that will make the
rest possible as external stuff. For those who want to use them, ofcourse.
And i also got an another idea after reading a earlier mail; and that is to
add the term "Middle/Right-MouseButton [normal | URL] to arachne cfg"
- Huh, and to make arachne NOT to load arachne:dialpage as default on startup.
(By the way, i can probably fix that myself in arachne.bat)
then, i could already today, redefine the "leftmost corner" to
"file://startmenu.dgi" ,well it could be done a little bit prettier than
to link arachne:dialup :) and still, i would need $URL in mime.cfg to actually
pass the pageurl, and not "file://startmenu.dgi" ,very annoying :(
(Maybe there is something i dont know??? then the error is the missing doc..)
And as mentioned earlier, a port of ibase to arachne would be nice.
Finally that someone took a look at arachnes HTTP-requests, it seems like
atleast v1.70 forgets a linebreak after "connection: keep-alive;"
(I dont remember the exact phrase)

You think!? it would be nice...
>> It has a static desktop, not as easy to change on the fly as i wanted.
>What do you mean, change on the fly ? Drag icons around ?
No, merely add and delete stuff in a fast and convenient way.
But i have already fixed that myself :)
>The Arachne desktop is only 3kb. So I guess I don't know what you want.
No, arachne used as a desktop is atleast a 100 times bigger.
But, a small quikmenu clone with arachne look is quite irrelevant (EOD?)
>Remember, if it looks like windows, then USE F@#*ing Windows !
Huh, i have a lot of other issues against m$windows besides its booring look.
For example, it does not allow anything to be done in an another way than
the one that some screwed moron at m$ has decided that it must be done in.
while arachne on the other hand, is quite customizalbe. and does allow things
to be done differently.
So while you fix your computer after your ideas, i will still be able to
fix mine in my way.
and we will both benefit from the same versatility in arachne. Except,
that you may redefine [ShiftF1] while i cant redefine [RightMouseButton]
(Not that i normally use a mouse that much, which by the way;
on this notebook-pc is done with the keyboard, [FN]+[Arrowkeys|Z|X] )

Ive done that. just templates for editing/discussion, not any serious work!
(I dont feel skilled enough to do something that would be a part of the distro)
but, i probably will make a "theme.apm" and distribute it separately, later...
