I agree - reasons for not using Windows is Microsoft's policy, not 
Windows themselves. I prefere using GUI most of the time... except that 
I don't like object oriented programming, necessary to write GUI 
programs today :-(

I want to replace IBASE libraries by something completely different on 
all other platforms except 16bit DOS.

Well, on some older computers, text mode will be simply always faster 
than graphics, but since certain video card level and CPU speed, 
graphics may be fast enough. (If only X11 were designed in some 
intelligent way... :-(
