This is off topic, but some of you might want to take a look.
Supposedly open source, allows builds for darn near everything EXCEPT -- DOS.
Developers may want to sneak a peek.

AbiWord
The Open Source, Cross-Platform Word Processor
AbiWord is absolutely free.
We encourage you to download AbiWord and to
tell all your friends. It is a fully-functional word processor with all the
features intact.
For further directions, choose the platform you're interested in:
Windows
Windows 95, 98, NT
Linux
BeOS
UNIX
NOTE: The preceding directions describe how to download and install
AbiWord on your machine. For most people, this is all you will ever need.
Since AbiWord is Open Source, you always have the option of
downloading the source code for AbiWord, modifying that source as much
or as little as you would like, and then building your own unique
personal version of AbiWord. For
directions on how to do this, see the
Developer section of this site.
