Having further exercised Arachne V1.6, I have found a few more items
of concern:
1. Some body (or bodies) has already pointed out that 'back' won't
ALWAYS remember the correct position in the previous page.
I have noticed today that this seems to
be connected with the 'Adjusting frames & tables' process. On a
text-only page, 'back' will go back to the correct place. If the page to
go back to has a requirement for 'Adjusting frames (etc.)', then the
correct place is reached when the page initially shows on the screen.
Then 'Adjusting...' happens, after which you are back at the top of the
page.
2. HISTORY problem - when clicking on the 'three bars' at the right-
hand end of the URL line to get the history list, for some reason the
most recently visited places are NOT at the top of the list, but
somewhere in the middle. Notice the position of the vertical scroll bar
to check this.
3. Sometimes, going back to a page results in it being downloaded
AGAIN from the wire, rather than fetching from the cache, even when it
is a simple, unatlered page which I was viewing just a minute
previously. Anyone else noticed this? Could this also be a history
problem??
4. This probably isn't a bug, but oh is it ANNOYING!!! I'd written a
longish message yesterday and went to press 'page-up' to see what I'd
written. For some reason, the message from the brain went to the left
hand, which pressed 'escape' - no, I don't know why, either! When I
clicked on 'forwards' to go back to my message, there was a perfectly
blank mesage form. I immediately came out and looked in the directory
for the MAIL.TMP file, which I thought would have contained the text.
Totally vanished. Talk about enough to make a saint swear.... Couldn't
text be saved when the screen changes? Please??
Despite the problems noticed, I still think that the latest version
is a very worthwhile step and also worth the wait.
Keep up the good work, team!!
Ron.
