Hi Roger;

I guess I wasn't clear on that. I WANT to stay on the page I'm viewing when
I hang up. I just don't see any reason for Arachne to re-render it for 3 mins.

Why should the act of hanging up affect anything except the contents of the
status bar ?

Welcome, Matt;-)

I agree with the above. Let's see if the master will change his mind.

Re: Your problem. I can only suggest that you put the VESA driver in your
autoexec if you used vesa when it worked, or run setup and select another
video mode.

p.s. I have found that altX will get you out of the video setup if you
are at the graphical selection screen, but if you are in a loop where it
does not recognize your video mode you are stuck ! Try cntrl+alt+delete.

Hi Jake;

I guess the attached sample was meant to be viewed in Arachne ?
"OOPS, still centered" appeared on the left side in Netscape 2.02.

Hi Guenter;

Complete except for the ones I posted today.
And the business about not being able to get out of setup at all if it
doesn't recognize your video mode.

It is taking a long time to get around to FULL testing. I'm sure we will
be adding to the list - but so far they are all fairly minor.
At least the ones I have encountered. <G>

 Ummmm,
You must have missed my post about adding this line to mime.cfg<g>

file/exportbmp.dgi |[100]COPY _4prt.bmp $s>NUL

Ok, update to the "fix". The new line should be like so:

file/exportbmp.dgi |[100]COPY _4prt.bmp $s>NUL \n del _4prt.bmp

This will delete the temp file after copying it to the selected dir/name

Hello Arachnids:

I checked out the site and my first impression was that it is a real good
thing. I decided to sign up. As I was entering my information on the form,
I came to a block that requested my private password for my email account
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]". Why should any one other than myself need to know
that kind of information? My last impression was that it was a bad thing.
So I abruptly aborted the sign up procedure and got out of there in a hurry!

  I'm not 100% sure, but I believe <center> tags aren't allowed inside
tables in HTML 4.x. Anyway, I've seen the W3C validator tell me several
times "<center> is not allowed here" when it was within a table.
Instead, you're supposed to use, for instance, <td align = "center">

Hello Matt:

The error message that appeared but very briefly on your screen probably
said "Out of Environment Space". This kind of error is due to either not
having enough memory, or having an improper configuration for memory, or
failure to set a large enough environment variable. See your DOS manual
and read your Arachne documentation files for more information. Your
machine, having 8 MB RAM, has more than enough memory to run Arachne; however,
if you load too many drivers and devices in the lower 640K region of memory
you will have problems. DOS internet programs generally need lots of lower
memory.

Isn't this getting OT?

On the Arachne Labs Intranet this was (atleast yesterday) Michaels "titel":
"Big Boss & Programator" (in .cz language of course)

Michael has now restricted access to the Intranet (one will now need to
know the login and password), good thing since anyone otherwise would have
been able to for instance create an arachne.key file (the registration

Oh yeah before I forget.. just a little bug I have found is that after I
installed telnet.apm and irc.apm whenever I try to list installed
packages via desktop/utilities/list of installed packages, it gives a
not enough memory error. I compared 1.50src and 1.60b1 mime.cfg on that

Well, I finally got all installed, did it the other way, installed 1.6b1

necessary.

This now seems to be working ok both for browsing and e-mail. On the
whole, I've no real complaints or problems, just the installation as
usual!

Let's see two things in the next version Michael please! an easy and
fully working install, and the possibility of a separate download for
a full manual to use Arachne?

AS said before, I would be willing to help in the translation into
"better" English if you can supply the rough translations for same.

Finally GUYS!! once again I say, let's see a few more REGISTRATIONS

least as well as M$ Internet Destroyer and Netscrape. We're not talking
a fortune here you know, we're talking 30 US $, that's less than about
ten beers here in the UK! Relate that to the price of a beer and a pizza

the right to use Arachne registered on up to TEN Machines.

Do it now - - - you know it makes sense!

Before I start playing around with adding OSes and using different HDD
management tools, I want to copy my existing HDD onto a new larger one.

But that's a problem, because DOS will only allow/recognize 26 drives
and I already have 19 [if I don't load CD]! 19+17=10 drives too many.

Someone had mentioned OnTrack awhile back and while there I noticed they
sell software specifically designed to copy one HDD to another. But,
after about a half dozen e-mails before I could get a definitive answer,
their DiskGo! or whatever program relies strictly on the OS to name and
recognize drives ... IOW, if you want to copy HDD with CDEFG partitions
to new HDD, new HDD will be HIJKL unless/until original HDD is removed
from system.

Pretty worthless for major backup. :<

I'm still having trouble with my travan tape back, so wanted something I
might be able to trust.

Anyone have any ideas about other software that can take over the
naming/recognition of drives during a major copy of one HDD to another?

Subject: Another Fast Installation!

Hello all,
I have Arachne 1.60b1 installed on this computer, and
in the usual 5 minutes or so. Upgraded from 1.50 s.r.c.
Prior to the installation, tests were conducted on this
machine using NS 4.08 and MSIE5.0. Both were really slow
on this computer, and when the tests moved to Arachne 1.50,
the bootup and download were considerably faster. Now I
have 1.60b1 installed, even faster.
I have epppd loaded high, and am using:
[TCP/IP]
IP-Address BOOTP
With DOS 6.22 I have 613KB free conventional memory, and
127KB showing in ALT-M when Arachne 1.60 is running.
In config.sys I am using:
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe NOEMS HIGHSCAN
to provide sufficient free upper memory to allow
my epppd to LH.
No problems with this installation. Arachne 1.60 really
allows these old computers to get those web pages in
a timely manner, compared to the bigger win browsers.

If you want to move the files then you can do that (as long as z: is free).
You'll need to change your partition table (fdisk) after each drive is
copied, and reboot and so. It works (and is rather easy), just make sure
you don't accidently remove the incorrect drive, I lost ca 200-300MB of
data which I don't even know what it was (so no big loss anyway <G>).
Another sollution is if you have two computer (and a network) is to set up
Personal NetWare and copy everything from one computer to the other.
However there's a limit in how many files this will copy (or perhaps with
DR-DOS xcopy) so it might not work (didn't work well for me and I instead
tried the above idea I got instead).

Thanks Glenn;
I HAD seen it but it didn't register because I wasn't up to testing yet.<g>

Further info:
I have found that if the virtual screen size you have selected is not big
enough for the page, it says "No Virtual Screen to Export" in the status bar.

I had to go to 5000 lines (pixels) to get home.arachne.cz.
It made a file that would just barely fit on a 1.44 floppy.
I think I will be able to save my stock gifs with a 1000 line virtual screen.

Also, I edited the "export.bmp" screen (Hit F4 when it comes up) to change
the default name and directory for export. I didn't know how to make it show
the complete path so I just put in ".\Export\PAGE.BMP". Works.
It was REALLY nice to be able to shell out and create that directory before
I hit the "Export" button. <g>

While in the editor I found a couple of functions that Michael had commented
out and turned them on to take a look. Appear to be functions to setup and
send bmp to printer !! Good stuff.

I wonder what other stuff is hidden in all these .AH files for future use. <G>

BTW, I did get a minor lock-up BEFORE I edited the export screen that may be
related to some of the unused stuff. I tried to get off the screen and got a
DOS message overlayed onscreen: "Fault writing device PRN: A_bort, R_etry ?"

Neither A nor R worked. I altXd to DOS and STILL got the message.
Cntrlaltdel required.
