Sam and All,
I have the true answer, but there are millions who would deny it.
The reason why Sam, Glenn, I, and many others on the list trim and snip
and clean up is because *we* are computer users. Not only are we
computer users now, we were computer users when "the net" meant Itelec
or I'Net or U'NI ... and when you didn't dial an ISP, you dialed a BBS
[or if you were very rich you dialed Compu$serve] and modems went 300bps
until the raging speed of 2400bps showed up.
And if you wrote a message longer than 40 lines [if the BBS editor would
let you even do it], the Sysop would warn you once, and a repeat would
get you kicked .... or a group moderator would kick you out for quoting
more than three lines in a response.
We *know* what bandwidth is. We had computers that were "top of the
line" with a 20Mbyte RLL HDD.
Windoze users are not computer users [with the possible exception of my
first born who is using dozeware only until he learns Linux & gets a
decent system set up]. To them bandwidth is something companies sell to
other companies that are listed on NASDAC. The idea of being kicked out
of anywhere because of over quoting is laughable to them. And they are
what keep Bill Gates alive.
It sickens me that I have a computer which is literally 200 times faster
than my first computer, but at times runs slower because of the sludge
and kludge BillyGate$ has filled telephonic interconnectivity with.
Intel Gives -- Micro$oft Takes.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!
l.d.
