Bob, You can get to the Internet *thru* Compuserve, but not via Compuserve. Your line, >>Response4 \u/noint/go:pppconnect<< is the key! I remember some time ago someone else was trying to get on the Internet with Arachne thru Compuserve, but did not use "/noint/go:pppconnect" and was logging onto Compuserve. Once you are logged onto Compuserve (without their proprietary software) you are at a dead end. IIRC, I referred them to Compuserve's "Internet 101" lessons for instructions on how to get to the Internet. If you log onto to Compuserve, get the Compuserve prompt (!), then try to get on the internet by typing, "go:pppconnect" or "go pppconnect" you can't get get on the internet. You have to whiz right by Compuserve in order to use the Internet thru Compuserve. I, too, access the Internet thru Compuserve with Arachne and NetTamer. Now, let's see if Steve Evans will post his ARACHNE.CFG so we can see what he is trying to do. If you have CompuServe "Classic" account (i.e. you have a numeric ID) then you can certainly use BobCat, NetTamer, Arachne etc with a CompuServe dial up. If you have a CompuServe 2000 account (i.e. AOL screen names) then no, you can't because you're using AOL's front end and it doesn't provide a PPP connection. I rarely use the Arachne dialer to do this. It's usually okay if you don't need have your modem called by an 'address'. I thought Steve said he was able to use CompuServe with Arachne, but not with his FreeWeb account? One thing he mentioned was the use of smtp.compuserve.com as the outgoing mail server when not using CompuServe. In the past you could do that, but it's now a closed relay and it won't accept mail for sending that doesn't originate from a dialup on a CompuServe account. The basic setup for Arachne on Compuserve is to proceed as normal with the setup (getting the modem to work is often the hardest part <g>). In Arachne.cfg the entries for CompuServe, if you're going to use the Arachne MiniTerm.exe dialer, that you can edit in are relatively minor, listed here by section of Arachne.cfg Items not listed can be what setup is successful in creating: Be sure you're in the Arachne directory when logging in.
