I just tested "MTEZ Express Fax". When scheduling a fax, the date
showed 02-21-100. After deleteing the 1 so that it showed just 02-21-00,
everything went fine.

I can send a copy of it if you'de like.

Notice the additional "D".... I'm now running the debug version of
epppd.exe (epppdd.exe)
In my past attempts to load epppd.exe high, somehow the output was
never rediected to ppp.log (worked fine if loaded low)
EPPPDD.EXE redirects into ppp.log with no problem when loaded high.

Dunno who said what last ... <G> Quotes have gotten too long, so ....

The ikon/icon/clickherethingy is provided by whatever e-mail software is
being used on the *receiving* end.

Anyone who sends a UUE to an Arachne user might get yelled at only
because UUE takes up more encoding space than Mime 64 does. Arachne
should, if working correctly that day, show the icon most suitable at
the bottom of the page. Clicking upon the icon would then send Arachne
to the UUDecode software and whatever would be saved in the temp
directory for us to view, save, run [if we're foolish], etc.

I am finding that Arachne may be better at putting internal ID into
encoded files it send out, compared to some of the ID stuff I haven't
found on attachments sent to me. Arachne is also capable, if I remember
correctly, of something most win-based e-mail stuff isn't: Reading
embedded files in the message itself, rather than attached files. <G>

And I'm still plowing through messages to find the place in whichever
cfg file we can add a line that ID's DIZ files as text automatically for
Arachne, to save bandwidth and confusion. <G>

Klaus,
Glad you had success with the 590. That machine really moves along
with Arachne, I know. My 575 is much faster than my 486's.
I have refined my own "roll your own" Netdial 1.3 - Arachne 1.60
a little, and find that with EPPPDD.EXE, it connects 100% of the time.
I know you are going to want to load epppdd high, if possible. I
have no cdrom drivers, etc. on mine, so I have plenty of room to
load everything high that will go there, and have about 615K for
Arachne using DOS 6.22.
Again, I'm happy you were successful, and that you were able to
develop your own version that works very well I am sure.

Hello Glenn, all:
I tried using Connection @LH EPPPDD.EXE>PPP.LOG and Arachne connects,
loads the packet driver high, and then has only one bottom bar of Arachne,
with the wording "Configuring through Bootp/DHCP" on it. I can get back to
a full screen with F5, and the memory info confirms epppdd loaded high.
Not possible to surf, however. Arachne says "OFFLINE".

Okay, Now when you go to the arachne help page, click on "supported
standards", find telnet: (apm) and click on the apm link. A telnet plugin
with telnet.exe and ftp.exe will be automatically downloaded and installed...
(My idea was that using a smaller program like telnet on a presumably
existing ppp connection, would test the connection while the usual arachne
bugs regarding memory aren't in the way.) Suppose you're looking for local
phone access now...

Right. And properly chastised too ! I usually make a special effort to say
"Screen" and "select" instead of "click". It just goes to show you that even
a CLI nut case like me can fall by the wayside sometimes. Got to get the old
brain washed again.

BTW, I did know I could save it and return to modify it. I was looking for
something easier- like ESC, review my inbox, and return to compose to find
the text still there. <G> I tried doing it via history (later) but no luck.

Hi Glenn, Mike;

We are sometime going to have to examine and deal with the re-direction
inconsistencies. Some DOSs may handle re-directions slightly differently.

On the surface, this looks like it can't be a problem, but re-direction
was designed into DOS before Loadhigh.

So, some DOSs may take LH EPPPD.exe >PPP.log as meaning what we want. i.e.
send the output of EPPPD.exe to PPP.log. Others may want to send the
output of Loadhigh to PPP.log. <g>

Even with gold plated and approved IBM PC-DOS, I find that what gets
re-directed depends on what the program is - without any logical basis
that I can see.
e.g.
BOTH of the lines:
LOADHI BUFFERS>nul=15 or LOADHI BUFFERS=15 >nul
will work with QEMM 4.23
That is, 15 Buffers get loaded high and the babble disappears.
but
NEITHER works with QEMM 5.12 or 8.01 where Loadhi apparantly sends
the buffers to the bit bucket !

Other examples available. :-((

Maybe I should make up a re-direction test.bat so we can compare OSs ??

Glad you got Pegasus. It comes with a POP/SMTP transport program, but
Arachne is superior in that regard. I use Arachne for mail transport,
mainly using the Arachne .asf script file, modified to return me to
my custom ppp_init.htm page (the dialer page), instead of to the
inbox. Then after retrieving my mail, I launch Pegasus from a button
on the dialer page, read, reply, and write new mail, then when I exit
Pegasus I am returned to the Arachne dial page where I (usually) get
any new mail and send my replies or new mail. Pegasus is compatible
as is with Arachne's incoming mail (XXXXXXXX.cnm) format. It does,
however need to be configured to make it's outgoing mail compatible
with Arachne's (XXXXXXX.tbs) format. You do this by creating a custom
"gateway" that controls how Pegasus constructs the mail headers and
message format of the mail you write. It is not difficult, but it
must be done right or your outgoing mail will not be uploaded to your
SMTP server. Without being in the least critical of Insight, you will
find Pegasus superior for handling a high volume of email, with many
features (filters, for instance) that I don't even use. When you are
ready to try it there are several Arachne users who can help you,
myself included. Meanwhile, enjoy Arachne/Insight.

Subject: PC-Pine for DOS doesn't like NWCACHE

Hello Folks,

As I've mentioned before, I now have installed PC-Pine, v. 3.96 for
DOS, and I have her up and running just fine to access the free IMAP
email services offered by Subdimension and Telebot.

I have only one problem with PC-Pine: She doesn't like NWCACHE.

I like to have a line like this in my AUTOEXEC.BAT:

NWCACHE 1024 512 /LEND=ON /DELAY=OFF

With the above line in my AUTOEXEC.BAT, PC-Pine will always crash
whenever I attempt to compose a message. With the line remarked out,
never a problem with PC-Pine; however, my Arachne will run very slow
without NWCACHE. I have a 386sx 33 Mhz PC, 8 MB RAM.

Comments, suggestions anyone?

As this subject may be considered off-topic, it might be a good idea
to reply by private email.

I would appreciate very much any help on this problem.

Visit the list of shareware pgms in the subject of
this msg and try to d/l any of the listed files.

All you get is a blank screen.

Visit the home page of Execnet at http://www.execnet.com .

After the frames finally finish loading, click on one of the links
across the top, such as "download" or "subscribe".

Arachne seems to go into an endless "loading page from disk".

Hello Tim,

Thanks. I suppose you have guessed right. I checked out these URLs
and the MIF converters there were for UNIX and for other OS's that
I never even heard of. So I'm still miftified with this file I have.

Sorry Bruce, but I can't help you out. Your mail did trigger an idea in my
head.

Does anyone know if there's a program (DOS and possibly Windows 3.x and 9x)
that tracks the number of keystrokes? A Win 3.x and 9x program that tracks
the length the mouse has travelled would be fun as well. (I know one exists
for X in Linux).

>Any (polite!) suggestions greatly appreciated.

I agree - but I find most people on the list polite.
And by writing "most" instead of "all" I mean myself - pointing out that
someone isn't polite isn't very polite now is it ;)

Are you sure it isn't like this (I do understand you left the ">" and "<" out)
<A HREF=Http://fillinthe.spaces.com>"This is a link"</A><Click Here>

The only thing I can imagine is that <Click Here> is the text that will
show up in the status bar when having the mouse over the link. (As a little
JavaScript also can do for you). The earlier format was, IIRC, something
like this (in AOLs browsers - not in the real world):
<A HREF=Http://fillinthe.spaces.com#"Click Here">"This is a link"</A>

Which also brakes the HTML standard.

Sorry no. But I would be suprised if it's needed.

It is? Not here ;)

No, "Click Here" becomes the text that appears after a link - however a
link without anything that one can use to "click" on isn't very usefull IMO.
(To give you a little credit Glenn, this didn't work in Netscape 3.04G or
Arachne 1.60b1 - but perhaps it will in other browsers <g>).
