Why not re-install Arachne? It helped me with some strange problems.
And if everything works alright, make backups of all files that are
changed after setup, so you can copy them back into Arachne-dir if
something goes wrong.
And as always, don't replace old backups with newer, unless you know
for sure that everything still works fine.
BTW: make environment bigger than 1024 bytes if you can effort some
conventional memory (eg. shell=C:\command.com C:\ /E:2048 /P ).
For me (I love using the environment), 4096 bytes sounds good.
Other possibility: check your system with a Anti-Virus-program!
