Here's a sample .HTM of tables that "eat-up" memory.

 Link to the attached TBLS-MEM.HTM
It will drop your DOS memory by about 42kb
Choose any one of the links on thae page.
(load error will result because the html isn't there)

Go back to tbls-mem.htm and DOS mem will drop even further.

Take another link. (load error)

Go back again. (memory drops yet again)

After several link/back, link/back actions..... CRASH!!!!
Error loading font file:
l:\arachne\system\PROPBN6.FNT
(free memory left = 15648)
Strike a key when ready . . .

Another way to get it to crash... "reload" tbls-mem.htm several times.

To prevent the crash... Alt+E, exit<enter>
(memory will be cleared)

Subject: O.T. - NS Timestamps

Hello All;

Sorry about the REALLY OT post, but I would like to know if some
users of NS 3.0x would do me the favor of looking in their Netscape.ini
file to see if there is ANYTHING that looks like it might specify the
users' Timezone.

I've got the feeling that that parameter must be missing from my .ini
and I haven't had any luck just sticking something likely into it. :-((

Thanks.

The only tip I can give on this (I never had to use it myself due to my,
almost, lack of vision on my left eye) is to try and get sick around when
they test how good you are physically (I'll have to assume they do this).
By doing so they can't claim that you are deliberatly doing your worst.
Still that wount help you from the civil (or in your words alternative)
service.

>I think that compulsory military service should be outlawed in all

Lucky for me I became Swedish "offically" (I was earlier Danish - but I
haven't even lived there) before they got the cleaver idea of demanding me
to travel to Denmark.
But I agree with you Michael, since there's (almost) no threat from any of
the fellow neighbours in almost any country around the world (except the
Middle East and India/Pakistan) I don't see the point of destroying so much
time for people that have no interest of it. (Not to mention the ammount of
money for the goverment).
On the other hand the army totaly consisting of professionals often get
into other kinds of trouble - since they don't know much from the civil
life fixing small things that need to be done while in the field will
require additionall staff.
IMHO there shouldn't be any armies at all.

>Do you think Internet can help to achieve this goal ?

As a last resort there may be some "computer division" (stopping crackers
from reaching vital data - or crack the oppositions side) - that would
probably suit you better.
As a side note the Swedish military computer division has as a goal to be
able to break into any other countries databases. Perhaps that's the reason
you get away very easily (two years probation (sp?)) after getting into
Pentagon etc. here. ;-)

So do I. I was lucky to do some work in an English university instead of
going to the army (the French military service was scrapped a couple of
years later). A friend of mine from Turkey wasn't so lucky though. He had
to abandon his PhD to go and raze villages in Kurdistan instead :-(

>Do you think Internet can help to achieve this goal?

It will take time. I'm currently trying to set up a web site that would
allow individuals from "enemy" countries (for example, the UK and Serbia)
to meet accross the net.

GREAT !!!!

Glenn, I think you have found (one/the ?) source of the memory leak !!

Michael ??
(PS: I'm sorry for you're being forced to go to army/public service
the only reason I'm still here, is that they lost my papers, and so it
took them VERY long to process, and than a new law came, that you are able
to finish university first .... I hope they don't change their minds too
soon ... and than I will do public service instead of army ... )

 Nope.
Couldn't find anything that even remotely resembled "timezone setting".

You didn't _really_ want me to answer that question..... Did you???<g>

Seriously, just place Arachne.pif on your desktop.
Spid.ico goes in the same directory with Arachne itself.

 That's it.
Double click the Arachne icon on your desktop and "Kiss M$IE goodbye"<g>

Since you'll be doing this from within W95/98... the drivers needed for
that "Wontmodem" will still be in memory.
The dialer (miniterm.exe), and Arachne itself will be able to access it.

BTW, I hope no-one minds that I'm sending this .ZIP file to the list.
(it only added 1,528 bytes to the size of this eMail)

Subject: Wish List

I've set up a useful site-specific search engine from Atomz.com

It allows me to have a consistent page style for the results pages:
I use white text on a green background with yellow links and the
search terms are in bold silver Arachne 3D font :-)

But the results pages arrive at the end of one of those long URLs
with %20 or whatever causes Arachne to trip up. So unless
Arachnoids save the results pages with another browser, they'll
never get to see them in all their Arachne-specific glory :-(

Before Michael is required to defend the honour of his motherland,
or push a hospital trolley, maybe he could look at this problem that
has affected others too.

The table cell <td height="n"> attribute also needs to be implemented.

You can take a look (not using Arachne) at the search form at
switch.to/arachne, where it points at the Arachne Chat archive.

There's a test page, search.htm, in the same folder (which isn't
linked-to). There the search form points at the mail archive for
_this_ list. The Atomz.com search even allows searching within
PDF documents.

Good luck Michael! In my idealistic youth I decided I could not
continue into a career as a control engineer.

I was always afraid for serving such %@#$@%@. The only thing I did was
convincing them that I was/am useless in such an environment. They think
I'm a non-violent lunatic, unable to deal with authority (they're right).
But there was no 'psychiatric punishment' and I don't mind the consequences
of their huge dossiers about me.

I don't know, but we can try!

Those with 286's that don't have EMM, I have found another file from QOS
that is supposedly for EXT memory on 286's.

I have no idea what it does, how it works, or anything. <G>
It's a sys file, so I imagine it would go in config.sys file ... it may
have quite a bit of help built in but I haven't had time to play with
it.

If anyone wants to fool with it to see what it is & how it might work,
write private & ask me for qext.sys

Glenn & Bernie are WRONG!

The situation is precisely as I said it was: Only the *INDEX* stops at
256 files. The cache itself can contain as many files as the HDD can
hold.

When I dug through Glenn's message, and finally figured out what he was
doing, I did something very simple. I went to the cache and did a DIR
at the prompt. Seeing that the proof of what I say was there, I then
did DIR>cache.txt

That directory listing of CACHE is appended hereto. You will note that
it has in excess of 400 files. You should also know that I sure as heck
wouldn't cheat in any way to prove this simple a point.
