As long as the encoding is set to 7bit, the eighth bit should be
cleared.  This obviously  is not happening; I got all the Spanish
characters Sam sent except one.   Still, what does happen is pos-
sibly system dependent.  This may well include some or all of the
systems which are involved in the mail transmission!  Eight-bit
encoding should be safer.
