This is the situation in Israel: if its a big ISP, but a veteran
one, they will first claim that you cant connect with DOS to their
service, but they will (usually) agree to give you the minimal
configuration data. The newer ISPs, however, will work really hard
to convince you that what you ask is impossible. One of these ISPs
is using what can be called "dynamic DNS numbers". In general, the
DNS numbers are seposed to be updated together with the IP number
when you log in.. even though its always the same number. So on phone
they claim that they "do not have DNS". When you explain to them that
they HAVE DNS and also tell them what a DNS is, thats when they put
you on hold for a few minutes to get help, and when they return they
say "you are correct, it seems like we have DNS, however you do not need
to ask us.". If you're lucky enough you will be able to get them to give
you etleast one of the numbers.

I have been with my current ISP for about a year now. Every time I need
support (which is quite rare) and I call there, the minute I say the
username, the techie in the other side usually pause, and then say
"ah! the DOS guy, no?". Since i'm the only person who they've ever
heard of who uses DOS with their service, they remember me. (which is
quite special, concidering that they are the largest ISP in Israel.)

I have once mentioned that if they want they can refer to me DOS users
who wish to use their service, but they didnt do anything with it.

BTW
For the last year they have a new special support division, dedicated
to Linux. Funny thing is, its a 1 man division, who get about 2-4
calls per week. He also happens to be one of the server admins,
which is why he actually KNOWS what he is talking about. Also, because
he almost doesnt get any calls, you'll usually end up chatting with him
after he help you with what you need. I guess its a boring job. :)
