Hello All,
I've noticed more than one of these comments, that when you see
gibberish on the screen, press F7 to try PPP. Well, hate to break it to
you, but if you are seeing gibberish, you are connecting at the wrong
speed for your modem. Never should you see gibberish! If you are able
to connect with gibberish, you have been fortunate so far. I suggest
you change your port speed setting in Arachne.cfg, either raise it or
lower it accordingly. The only time I have heard of gibberish being
echoed to screen is with the older modems, especially 9600 baud or
slower, and it usually is a sign your modem is trying to connect at a
higher than supported speed. You've been able to connect only because
of your buffers on the com ports being able to hold your outgoing data
long enough to pass it to the server. Anytime I see gibberish with my
old PS2 with a 2400 baud USR Courier modem, I "CTRL C" break and start
over.
Just my bit of advice!
