When I was able to open the inbox in 1.61--well, turns out that worked
only when the mbx was empty!
After downloading new mail, look what's back:
Cannot create index file :\$IDX$cnm.IDX
Went offline and tried the trick that had (sometimes) worked with
1.60 Stable: viewed the index of a folder, then wrote in "file:inbox.dgi".
Trick didn't work this time. Every time I did it, Arachne tried to
connect to some remote web page and then put up an error page saying it
couldn't do that. (No of course it couldn't because I was offline at the
time.)

Now it gets even stranger:
I used 1.60 beta 1 to read some of the mail. Then I tried again with
1.61, and, yes, you guessed it: It felt like working ok this time!
