Neil,
It wasn't saying put the cache directory on RAM drive -- just setting
the TEMP directory up on RAMdrive. That way the
read/write/read/sort/read/write of an index is much faster.
It's just the index page for Inbox, not the Cache directory, and not any
of the mail.
I don't think anyone has pushed using RAMdrive for file downloads of any
sort, i.e. don't put cache in RAMdrive. If you want speed, run Arachne
in RAM but keep cache, mail, downloads, hotlist, cookies, history all on
HDD. That's how I ran Arachne for some time. [I admit I had a large
RAM drive, much larger than my current dumb setup allows ... and I would
*sometimes* place cache on RAMdrive. But I also operate with a UPS, and
have for over a decade ... so I don't worry about losing anything in RAM
to power failures and such. Only human error would trash my RAM ...
l.d.
