Try to find a FTP site very near to you.
You can also try to find another cable user, which has a FTP site, and try
to download something from there.

It's easy.
1 byte (eg a character) consists of 8 bit.

The theoretical maximum performance of a standrad NIC is 10 MBits/s
(newer even 100)

Because these are _BITS_ you have to convert them to BYTES.
so you divide by 8 ;))

so 10 Mbit/s = 10/8 MByte/s = 1.25
