Hi gang -
I'm trying to get Arachne to use the DSL connection in my home office
network. For background, the network is a peer-to-peer using two Win 98
machines and a 386 with 4 megs of RAM and DR-DOS 7.02. One of the Win 98
machines is set up with the Sygate sharing software and acts as the server
for the group Internet connection. I originally had the 386 connecting to
the network using Netbeui and dialed out for Internet access using
FreeWWWeb, but I am currently trying it out with Netbeui unloaded and TCP/IP
loaded. I can ping out to the Internet from the DOS prompt, so I know the
386 is getting out to the Net, but I can't even attempt to use Arachne
because loading TCP/IP drops my RAM down to 477k (620k under Netbeui).
I suppose my next step is to see if this is even the direction I should be
heading toward getting Arachne on the DSL line. My assumption is that TCP/IP
must be loaded and that there is no way to get out onto the Net under the
Netbeui arrangement through the network. If anyone has other suggestions,
I'd appreciate hearing them. In the meantime, here are my autoexec.bat and
config.sys files. Suggestions for squeezing more RAM out of this are
welcomed!
Thanks,
Richard Burckhardt
