Yes. I distinctly remember when PKZip v2.04g was just released (about
this time of year in 1993, I believe). For some reason I don't recall,
I was somewhat concerned about the order, and I'm almost certain
that Phil Katz himself e-mailed me reassuring me that my order was
filled and that there was a bit of delay because the new version of
PKZip was so recent. I remember being so impressed by his eagerness
to please. Oh, I did upgrade to the 2.5 version for DOS -- but only
on one of my machines with Windows installed (since it supports the
long filenames) -- and it was still a complete, free upgrade for those
of us registered users, even from way back when. But (unless it has
since changed) there isn't a configuration file for that version like
the one for 2.04g, so I don't use 2.5 for DOS unless I have to.
I've always loved PKZip and have used it with batch files for backups
and so on for a long time. It seems terrible for Phil Katz to lose
his life so young and tragically... :(
