I don't know whether it solves your specific problems with NT, but
have you tried/are you aware of NTReader?
It is a replacement for the appalling reader.exe that comes with
NT and is a superb piece of software. It can act as a "shell" for
NT such that you don't even need to make a keypress in NT.
It's due to come out of beta test RSN. Email the author, Mark Cole,
