Two things - (1) I have installed SUSE linux & redhat, and both offer
pre-defined software configs at install, for various tasks, such as graphics
w/station, router, minimum etc. They needn't be *disk hogs* if you can
define what tasks you want to perform - and you can always add to them later
if you have space left over. 4Gb sounds ahem overkill perhaps 500Mb-800Mb
for *full* install.

Best bit about linux is the sheer amount of documentation (I've read lots of
it & still feel like I touched the tip of the iceberg!)

And (2) You can get a version called 'LOAF' or 'Linux on a floppy' at ...
