I'm having another one of my "stupid" days. I don't understand what you are
asking. I use Netscape 2.02. It ALWAYS marks hypertext links as "active" by
underlining them. (optional, as is changing the color)  It would be pretty
useless otherwise.
Also, locally, I use NS2.02 to surf my disk, just like you might with Arachne.
All directory and filenames are marked as active links and can be used as such.

If the filename is in a html formatted document (as my directory listing are)
then it will be marked as a link.  Also in mail.  But probably not if WITHIN
a .txt document.

I think it a contextual problem.
What's the question ??
