IMHO it's SVGALib ...
I managed to run arachne, but the colors are awful ...
eg arachne buttons are black, and some text is black on black and therefor
extremely readable :((
Also if I try to switch resolutions it crashes, and leaves me with a core
dump :((
Play a bit around with graphics drivers (specific for your card, VESA, VGA
...)
