Although this is enlightening and I did not realise F4 works on e-mail
files too... this is not exactly what I mean...
I mean to see what is comming down the telefoneline (out of the modem).
In the inbox this file is 1.690kB This file with F4 has been adapted by
Mailmann and has grown to 10.139kB... so a lot is added to the raw
version.
But the URL is file:C:\mail\63168141.cnm which is 1.690kB.
In this file the interesting part is:

=============== snip =================

X-Mailer: Arachne V1.64

Subject: Re: _Hélène_&_François
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII
Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit
Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
=============== snip =================

charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7 bit

How come? The strange characters in "Subject" are 8-bit chars and are
transfered right (exept the spaces that turned to underscores). How is
this possible in 7-bit protocol?

BTW: We talked a lot about charactersets and the like and many times
someone referred to "US-ASCII" but can anyone define US-ASCII?
Is that the first 7 bits (char. 0..127) of cp 437 or 850 [So no
special characters are in US-ASCII] ?
