Not sure whom to gripe to on this one... but this bug is really
beginning to burn me!
http://www.modarchive.com
is notorius for thier file extension/MIME type combos.
Files downloaded from them are normal *.zip files, but ".zip" is merely
*appended* to the original extension.
When D/Ling and saving these files with A164, I must remove the first
extension, whereupon my HD clicks normally. Then there is a very
long wait before the web page returns. If BOTH extensions are left in
place (i.e. zoolrave.mod.zip), the HD clicks and the file cannot be
found again, even using "dir zoolrave /s" from the root.
Perhaps this is an issue with MS-DOS. Windoze/IE has probs associating
these files w/ apps, Opera handles them without a blink.
If anyone knows why A164 misplaces these files, or at least takes so
long to save them, tell me!<<
Pete,
I just went to the site and downloaded a small file (wheel_introedit.mod)
from their top 10 list.
The first thing that I had to do when Arachne asked me what I wanted to do
with, "wheel_introedit.mod.zip," was to change it to, "whlintro.zip". Hit
"Save" and the file was saved in my "Download" sub-directory. Have you been
changing the name to conform to DOS's 8.3 requirements or merely deleting the
".mod" extension?
