AFAIK, For name server (DNS) all we need to know is the proper syntax
so that pppd.exe, epppd.exe or epppdd.exe will be able to use it.
---clipped from dospppd.txt---
--- Begin (original filename: PPPD.MAN) ---
PPPD for DOS 0.6 beta
<snip>
namsrv <n>
Set IP addresses to return in the DNS field of
BOOTP replies. Supported only by the ethernet
emulation versions EPPPD.EXE and EPPPDD.EXE. Up to
two nameservers can be specified. This option is
useful for configuring DOS Internet applications
through BOOTP.
<snip>
--- End (original filename: PPPD.MAN) ---
---end clipped section from dospppd.txt---
If I understand correctly,
all we need is a second "namsrv" line in pppdrc.cfg
So, my new one would look like this....
---pppdrc.cfg---
COM1
38400
irq 4
base 0x3f8
modem
crtscts
asyncmap 0
namsrv 204.179.144.2
namsrv 204.179.144.150
user "glennmcc"
passwd "********"
________________
---clipped from arachne.cfg---
NameServer 204.179.144.2
AltNameServer 204.179.144.150

I'll test this by changing the first one to a non-existant DNS.
(I'll use 000.000.000.000 as namsrv before adding the second namsrv
line to be sure that it doesn't access anything)

I've just discovered that pppdrc.cfg is *not* being used for the DNS
*Only* arachne.cfg gets used.
And *both* "NameServer" and "AlNameServer" *are* working.
Here's the test.
Change your "NameServer" in arachne.cfg to 000.000.000.000
After a few seconds the AltNameServer line will be used.
If AltNameServer is pointing to a *valid* *working* DNS
(I just also discovered that mine is *not* working)
So, I used the "main" one as "Alt"
Here's my current Arachne.cfg settings
NameServer 000.000.000.000
AltNameServer 204.179.144.2
And my current pppdrc.cfg
COM1
38400
irq 4
base 0x3f8
modem
crtscts
asyncmap 0
user "glennmcc"
passwd "********"
(that's right, no "namsrv" line and everything works fine)
With the following settings, I can't go anywhere.
NameServer 000.000.000.000
AltNameServer 000.000.000.000
COM1
38400
irq 4
base 0x3f8
modem
crtscts
namsrv 204.179.144.2
asyncmap 0
user "glennmcc"
passwd "********"
So even with the correct DNS in pppdrc.cfg it can't be accessed.
I think we have a bug here. :-(
