Hello Michael, All;
I gotta say, Arachne in FULLscreen mode with NO scrollbars is GREAT !!
Really different looking. NOBODY else comes even close. Thanks Michael.
I get 1Kb more DOS memory over 1.64 with this version.
I haven't had a chance to find one of those pages where the cursor keys
couldn't scroll the dropdown menu yet, but I'm sure it works now. I'll
report on this tonite. This will be teriffic.
I thought that table rendering on Yahoo had gone bad, but when I checked
with 1.64, I see that it's probably Yahoo itself that has changed here.
The change in font size doesn't seem to do any good on pages like Yahoo.
The characters there seem to be the same size as before - which was/is
too big. If I go to HTML font-1, they are about right but then all of
Arachne's internal pages and especially buttons are all wrong.
When Michael does so many nice things it really makes it hard to deliver
any bad news. <g> But that's what I'm here for.
Setup went the same as with 1.64. I got the same BLANK gray page with the
standard Arachne buttons and status bar after it tested my processor.
The URL field said file:setup_OS.dgi
Nothing was happening. This is exactly what happened with 1.64.
After a few minutes I altX'd and restarted and the page with the setup
wizards was accessable. I went to PPP setup and passed on the modem
detect because I'm on ramdisk and didn't want to reload if there was
a problem.
Onward to MODEM settings. PROBLEM. Half of the suggested COM values are
wrong. COM 2 Base is shown as 0x2e8. It should be 0x2f8.
COM 4 Base is shown as 0x3f8. It should be 0x2e8
COM 4 Irq is shown as 5. It should be 3.
No more complaints on setup.
As Bernie predicted, I'm not thrilled with the new F8 function.
It calls a .bat which will allow us to customize what we clear.
This is GREAT.
Unfortunately, using commands like del *.* or *.??? as included cause
DOS 3.3 to put up the "Are you SURE y/n" message, and it looks really
ugly on top of a graphic screen - besides being a pain in the butt.
In DOS 6+ I think you can override that with an environmental Yes.
In DOS 5, Bernie says I can put an ECHO y pipe into it. I haven't tried yet.
In DOS 3.3 I don't think you can do the ECHO thing. I won't have any real
problem because I use keyfake, and that will do the job - but the method
is just too sensitive to versions of DOS.
Since it IS just a batch file, everyone can find a solution.
I'll look for a UNIVERSAL solution.
Generally, I think it is terrific. I'll be surfing the heck out of it tonite.
Thanks Michael;-)
