No problem? The program uses up 174K bytes + 2* size of your shell (2*3200
in my case). Even with enough memory to load all this high you'll have a
hard time fitting a hard drive cache in low memory, and without smartdrive
loaded CP didn't work good at all for me.
Running Arachne isn't all that smart IMHO, Alt-M reported "51!!!" with 1.65
IIRC so there are no swap buffers in low memory.
But it's ideal for doing work in other programs (except that there's a
break in the sound when I exit BC). Another problem is that you'll need to
copy the files together that you want to hear since it doesn't continue
onto the next file if you shell to DOS.

How to fix this? (with IMHO better ideas as we go along)
1. Reprogram Cubic to use less (don't look at me)
2. Apply a diffrent core.exe
3. Try and use "cloaking.exe" to use XMS memory instead of conventional
(untested - does anyone know where I can get it?)
4. Use 32-bit Arachne (not available yet, other 32-bit programs works so
there should be no problem)
5. Change in cp.ini so that less memory is used*, "89+" reported by Alt-M
in Arachne should be good enough shouldn't it? However EPPPD wasn't loaded
then, unless that can be run on another computer or loaded in upper memory
you are still screwed. However combined with idea 2 this would probably
work good enough while being on-line.

Another problem is that programs made in Borland Pascal 7.0 will encounter
the "Pentium Pro bug" (timing problem) thereby exiting with "error 200"
when run (just like they do at times in Windows 3.x).

* Change the size of the plrbufsize value (the other buffers doesn't seem
to matter), I changed it to 70 miliseconds (from 1000) - this must most
likely be changed depending on the CPU (and sound card?) - by switching to
60 it would at times sound jerky. I would like to remind you that I have a
K6-2 400 so don't try this on a 386 and then complain that it isn't working
;-) Also you'll of course need enough free XMS for Cubic and Arachne (Cubic
seems to use ca 8MB for me - changing the other buffers might reduce this
ammount).
As you may understand everything works fine for me (except that when a JPEG
was processed the computer made a sound almost like "burb" <G> - this
didn't happen to me again so it doesn't bother me) so I better get some
more RAM - 36.5MB for SmartDrive and 8MB for Cubic doesn't leave much for
Arachne (19MB - Arachne can at most use 32MB IIRC).

BTW: Thanks very much Glenn, I never did read the docs for Cubic ;-)
