Hi list,
to me this is a new problem and maybe a bug.
I am not happy with my ISP because of its slowness and unreliability so
I subscibed to an other one.
Subscription was not easy because their "subscribe now" button did not
react OK (We already discussed this on the list).
After subscribing I tried to login ... problems again.
I used the PPP Dialer (file:ppp_init.htm) to change the phonenumber,
user name and password... pressed ALT D... FAILURE.
What went wrong?
It took a long time to discover that in "arachne.cfg" the line
"PPPpasword ********" completely disappeared.
I think this is a serious bug (1.61) because you discover this only if
you saved an old .cfg and compare thouroughly.
Besides newbies are advised not to change anything in the .cfg file
directly.
Now dialing was OK and surfing the web also... but no e-mail.
Ofcourse not: I did not set the email settings.
In Arachne 1.61 I used the ARACHNE TCP/IP Setup... Manual Setup... to
change the e-mail settings (new password & username & pop3 & smtp)
Dialing again... NO E-MAIL
Now the POP3password was gone ... same bug??
>From now on: I will make changes directly in the arachne.cfg and not
using wizzards or the setup screen! And... saving the old .cfg first by
renaming it.
Anyway now I can surf and download e-mail but no uploading!
I asked the provider and sent them the SMTP log:

WHY IS "Relaying denied" ??? I asked them.
Their reply: (translated to English)
Dear Sir,
After opening the mail program click:
extra--->accounts--->eigenschappen---->servers
at the bottom of the page you will see:
"this server needs verification"
click settings
give account name and password again
This may be very usefull to an Outlook user... but I'am not.
(They offer automatic changing your settings GRRRR)
How do I make Arachne verifying SMPT, must be something like
POP3password?
BTW: new ISP is onetelnet.nl (The OneTel offering "carrier select" phone
calling also).
I did asked them again... but do not expect a usable answer.
Anyone on disappearing passwords ?
Anyone on "Relaying denied" ?

BTW dial.log, POP3.log and SMTP.log are very usefull tools in Arachne.
