Pete,

I thought that you had indicated that the motherboard spec sheet stated that
the board could be set up for a 486. Let me find your post. Yes, you did.

>>From the mobo manual (verbatim):
---------------------
* Uses Intel, AMD, Cyrix 80386DX running at 25/33/
  40MHz, or uses Intel 80486SX running at 20/25/
  33MHz, or 80486DX CPU running at 33/50MHz, or
  80486DX2 running at 50/66MHz
* Uses Intel, Cyrix 80387 running at 25/33/40MHz.
  Uses AMI BIOS: 27512-20 (1)
* Uses UMC chipset
* 8.33/10/12.5MHz bus speeds (for 80486-50)
(etc., etc...)
"Note that when upgrading the CPU, you must also change the osillator."
386DX-25, 50; 386DX-33, 66; 386DX-40, 80
486SX-20, 40; 486SX-25, 25; 486SX-33, 33
486DX-33, 33; 486DX-50, 50
486DX2-50, 25; 486DX2-66, 33
-----------------------------------
I think my best "mfg reccommended" option is to drop the oscillator to
33Mhz and replace the CPU with a 486DX2-66.

NB: The CPU currently on the board is not in the list above.<<

I pulled out my 586 installation sheet and it indicates that the 586 can be
run on motherboards with bus speeds of 20, 25, 33, and 40 MHz, with 33 and 40
MHz the preferred speeds ---> yields 133 MHz and 120 MHz cpu speeds
respectively. Voltage must be 5 volts.

I have gotten very quick responses from Evergreen when I have contacted
them. I hope that you find a similar response.

BTW, I think it was Cyrix that came out with the 40MHz 386.

I checked the evergreen site, sounds good. Too bad they use JavaScrap
onhe compatability page. Waiting for a response to an e-mail inquiry.
I fear that my intended use is a little "outside the box", as this comp
was originally a 386. Might just get an unusable response if my Q or
system isn't in thier little sheet ;-)<<
