I downloaded a wiz1nol.txt file which explains all the settings.  I haven't
signed up yet but plan to do so. This file says the signup process uses
Javascript, while one Arachne list member says he signed up successfully without
Javascript, using DOS Lynx386. I think it might be desirable for ARACHNE.CFG to
refer to a separate WATTCP.CFG. That way, I used Arachne with Bluegrass Net and
Freewwweb with the same ARACHNE.CFG. WIZ1NOL.TXT file follows:

Wizard57M's Quick Setup Tips for One Nation Online Internet Service

OK, here we go! It took me a bit of time, some trial and error, but I have
finally found the way to get ANY operating system and browser combination to
connect to 1 Nation Online free, no banner ad, Internet Service Provider!
So, if you're ready, follow these instructions and you'll be surfin' the
net, sending/receiving email, doing newsgroups, FTP, IRC or whatever you
would like. Using DOS, Windows 3.1 or even Windows 9X! Without having to
download the 1nol Setup file for Win9X, which is about 6.5 megabytes in
size. I just couldn't bring myself to do that, even though I still have
some space left on my HD. Seemed to be a waste of time and HD territory!
Also, I'm not too thrilled with letting something reset all of my Internet
settings and preferences!

First, and sorry I haven't found a way to get around this step, you will
have to find a friend who will let you borrow their Windows 9X machine that
has IE4 or higher, or NetScape 3 or higher, installed, with Javascript
enabled! I know, it's a pain in the posterior, but 1nol's signup page is
almost entirely written in Javascript! No way around this step at present.
Anyhow, get your friend to fire up their Internet connection, then go to 1
Nation Online's home site, http://www.1nol.com. If their browser is
configured for JS properly, a new window will open on their desktop, and
when it finished loading their are several useful links in it. One link is
to an updated list of dialup access numbers...click on it, and find an
access number that is in your area, not long distance to call, unless you
don't mind paying for long-distance phone call to connect to the Internet!
Write the number down somewhere for future use...you will need it!

Now, go back to the page of links, look for the link to "sign up now", and
click there. Follow the prompts, and click on "continue" when needed. Fill
in the appropriate text areas with your name, address, phone number and so
forth. Enter your desired "username" and "password", click continue or
send, depending on the screen you are in. Unless you have a good memory,
mine is still working somewhat, hehe, you may wish to write down your
desired username and password. Once you click on the send button and 1nol
has processed your user information, you will either receive notice that it
was accepted or that a problem was encountered. Go back if needed to fix
any problems, such as username already taken, etc. When 1nol has accepted
your user info, you get a confirmation screen, which includes a link to
download an installer file (the 6.5 mb monster I mentioned above) and
another button to "finish". Unless you really do want to let the installer
setup a Win9X machine, bypass the download link and click on finish! You
should now have an account with www.1nol.com! You may now give your good
friend back their machine, along with a cold brew or beverage of choice to
say "Thanks Bud!" and go to your own computer! Don't forget to take the
information you have written down (phone number, user info, etc.)!

Now you are back home, you've got your computer booted and running! If
you've ever setup an Internet connection, you'll have no problems at all.
If not, well there's no time like the present to learn! To make this as
short as possible, I'm going to assume that you know how to start your
Internet app, or browser, or dialup setting configuration utility. If you
don't, then look for a "README.TXT" or some other help file in the directory
you installed the application to and read it, then read any other
documentation that comes with that application! Get to know your
application...makes everything so much easier. I know it's tempting to just
jump right in and fire it up and try to surf the Net or send some email, but
take my word for it, if you read the documents first, it will save you lots
of headache and work in the long run! Besides, every application has its
own little nuances that preclude me from being able to tell you how to set
everything up. Also, there are quite a number of apps I haven't used, so
might not be to helpful with those! I'm going to give you all the numbers,
server settings etc. that the majority of Internet apps use. These all work
for DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 that I know of for sure, probably even
Win98 and Linux with DOSEMU also!

Here are the various settings you will need for 1 Nation Online, or
1nol.com:

If needed, specify that the "server assigns IP" or similar setting,
sometimes called "dynamic IP addressing"

Domain Name servers
     primary=204.178.185.5
     secondary=204.178.185.105

Email servers, set both POP3 (receive) and SMTP (send) to:
     mail.1nol.com

Newsgroup server
     news.1nol.com

For Win9X DUN only---

     On protocol, check to make sure that you use TCP/IP, not NETBIEU,etc.
     In TCP/IP settings, enable data compression and header compression.
     Leave settings such as RWIN blank, these are usually in the "registry"
     data anyhow.

Now for Wiz's tips on getting a successful login to 1nol.com! It took me
longer to figure these out than any other setting. I've used a number of
different network services, and almost all use the same format, with only
minor changes. Usually, the only change needed is the "username" you send
in reply to the dialup server. Some only ask for username, others want the
domain included, such as [EMAIL PROTECTED] was this way, so my
sign in name to FreeWWWeb was [EMAIL PROTECTED] just need the
name, like AOL, I only use Wizard57M. 1 Nation Online had me stumped for
quite some time...but a bit of "detective" work showed me what they were
asking for. In whatever dialing program you use, whether Win9X DUN, or in
Win3X you have Trumpet or Shiva, or like myself in plain DOS I have NetDial
and the MiniTerm dialer in Arachne, the correct login name to send back to
1nol.com looks like this...username@1nol

Note there is no "dot com" behind it! It will NOT work if you put it like
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Don't ask me why, I don't know! Might ask 1nol)
So, if your 1nol user name is jpublic, then your login name is jpublic@1nol

Next is the password...remember it? You did write your username and
password down didn't you? Hehe! Most network type services just require
you to enter your password, then press enter, or if your dialer supports
autologin, you enter it in a box and it is sent when the server requests.
1 Nation Online wants a little bit extra besides your chosen password for
logging in! Add the letters "xms" without quotes and in lower case to your
password! Now let your dialer run autologin! Or if you enter it manually,
press the enter key, or click a button, whatever! So, let's say that
jpublic above has a password of clueless. In the proper place, he would
enter as his/her 1nol.com password cluelessxms then press or click, etc.
Easy enough once you figure out what 1nol wants!

1 Nation Online's email system uses just the user name and regular
password...to receive your mail, jp above would enter jpublic for email
username, and clueless for password. Their email address would be
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
The one notable exception to this is for those who use Eudora as their email
client! Those users must use their email address as their username. This
is a peculiarity only in Eudora that I am aware of.

The newsgroups server doesn't require a password, all you need is the
username, jpublic. Your particular newsgroup application may need the SMTP
server and email address, see above for those.

These tips should get almost anyone connected to One Nation Online Internet
Service. The service is absolutely FREE! No charge ever, and no maximum
amount of online time (as of date of writing). I would urge all Internet
users to at least signup and use 1nol.com every now and then, just to show
your support of a free and open Internet!

For DOS internetters, here is a WATTCP.CFG sample for 1nol.com that you can
use for NetMail DOS, WATTCP FTP, GetNews and PostNews, as well as the sample
apps that come with WATTCP. You can also "include" this CFG in your Lynx
386 DOS config file(s), using the "include" statement (see documentation)

Sample WATTCP.CFG that works with 1nol.com:

my_ip=BOOTP
netmask=0.0.0.0
gateway="REMIP"
nameserver=204.178.185.5
nameserver=204.178.185.105
sockdelay=45
hostname=1nol_user
mss=1024
bootpto=30
domainslist="1nol.com"

I hope I've been of some assistance in getting you connected with One Nation
Online Internet. If you need further help, there is a "frequently asked
questions" page, updated occasionally, at 1 Nation Online home page,
http://www.1nol.com, just close the Javascript window that pops up in IE or
NS, and the main home page will be viewable. You may also send an email
requesting help to me, and I'll try to find the answer, my email address:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
or send to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], or any of the
