Hi Thomas,
I don't consider it a game. When I spend time
composing an email I want it to be legible. Otherwise, why
write it. Since 80 characters seems to be the most used
maximum screen width then 80 characters would seem to be
allowable line length. However, many browsers use portions
of the screen width for graphical nonsense which then inter-
feres with an 80 character line. Also, if replies are made
with previous emails attached then characters added to the
beginning of lines can exceed the 80 character limit. Some-
where I read a suggestion to limit lines to 60 characters.
I have found this to be a reasonable length to strive for.
A 60 character line length seems to work well in most email
readers I have used. You are free to use whatever line
length you wish. However, I don't really like to be forced
to copy my emails to an editor so I can read them and I
have discarded many attachments because I can't spend the
time decoding them.
