I might wish disagree with that last statement (in the nicest possible way
<g> ! )
Linux runs fine on my Cx486/100 w/ 36M ram. That's with *KDE* - the 1st time
I saw it I was hypnotised by the possibility of 4 virtual desktops which can
be switched instantly, all on a machine with a 1Mb display card!
The whole system feels qualitatively faster than the same box running
windows with "only" one desktop. Plus, that real multi-tasking and process
'niceness' means you shouldn't get starved of machine cycles waiting for a
print job or search to complete.
Besides, X windows can run on almost any linux box, you just need a window
manager matched to the harware and memory available. KDE can be a resource
hog, but it runs as well as win95/8 on the above box.
In a world without walls, who needs windows?
