Only DOS Internet programs I was ever able to run from OS/2 connection are the
X_* mail and news programs in UKA_PPP. UKA_PPP 1.7x2 apparently calls itself
NOS-BOX 2.05. X_MAILN.EXE from UKA_PPP 1.7x2 didn't work for me either from
OS/2 or DOS (Unexpected server response) ,but copying X_MAILN.EXE from
UKA_PPP 1.7x1 made it work. Now I find I have to use dotted-decimal server
addresses rather than names with X_* functions in UKA_PPP, both from straight
DOS and from OS/2.
Arachne won't run from OS/2 connection for lack of packet driver, but DOSPPPD
works in OS/2 Warp 4 VDM, and DOS Internet programs, including Arachne, run that
way, but download much slower than under DR-DOS 7.03, maybe half as fast.
Arachne run that way thrashes the hard drive or Zip 250 disk much more than
under DR-DOS 7.03 with NWCACHE, and I imagine copying Arachne to VDISK with
DR-DOS 7.03 might be even better.
