No drawbacks AFAIK.

As I say...  I've *always* run Arachne that way. It was the
only way I could get it to work when I first started using it
and I never found any reason to change later.

The only .CFG files that Arachne uses in BOOTP mode are
arachne.cfg and pppdrc.cfg. (This may apply in other cases;
I'm not an expert :)
