Most 'nix machines have procmail running. If you have a shell
account, you can use it. All mail is filtered and dealt with at
the ISP level, and you never have to download it if you don't want
to.
In my case, my webhost is already pretty loaded, so living in
a place with unlimited phone usage for a set fee, it's just as
easy for me to download everything and deal with it on my machine.
The volume of spam targetted at me is so low that I barely notice
it anyway.
IF it ever came to pass that someone tried to mailbomb me,
THEN, I'd go ahead and stick that single procmail filter on my
account at the webhost.
