Maybe Arachne could call up or somehow integrate with Pegasus? Would that solve
the authenticated SMTP problem with Telebot and a few ISPs, and a few other free
mail/news services? In Heise News there was an article about authenticated SMTP
and SMTP-after-POP. Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, Eudora, Pagasus Mail
(typo for Pegasus?), and Pine were cited as supporting authenticated SMTP
(RFC 2554). I remember there was discussion about Arachne's lack of support for
authenticated SMTP. Here is the paragraph from Heise News, verbatim:
Bereits seit M�rz 1999 existiert allerdings ein neuer Standard in Form
des [23]RFC 2554 (SMTP-Auth), der SMTP um den l�ngst �berf�lligen
Passwortschutz erweitert. Aktuelle Versionen vieler E-Mail-Clients
sind bereits in der Lage, mit SMTP-Servern auf RFC-2554-Basis E-Mails
auszutauschen, so zum Beispiel Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger,
Eudora, Pagasus Mail oder Pine. Zusammen mit einer verschl�sselten
Passwort-�bergabe via Simple Authentication and Security Layer
([24]SASL) und Transport Layer Security ([25]TSL) gibt es also l�ngst
