Hi Gangue

After Mike Millen asked about freeserve, (and I sent him a reply) I
was floundering through a rummage sale when I found a box of computer
bits, software and things. (a jumble sale at local community
resource)

In amongst it all, a 56 k real modem, a bit on the cheap
japanese/korean/chinese side, but the whole box only cost me 5.00
($10 or thereabouts). Got it home, found a power supply for it and
fired it up. Works fine with QNX, happily surfin'.

Then I remembered Mike's e-mail so I dug out 1.60 and fired it up
with this real modem, working ok. So then I figured, what the hell,
go for broke! and downloaded arachne167. Remember, I haven't seen a
rach version since 1.6 that I've been able to use. The 167 went into
the machine "A-ok" and fired up like a hot knife through butter,
connected and surfed first time! quite impressive.

For Mike's benefit, the DNS numbers you are using are correct for
freeserve 194.152 68.64 and also 194.152.64.35. The correct phone
number for a DOS connect is 0845 0796699. Set the modem speed at
38400. DONT bother even trying to use the set modem speed at the
11whatever speed, freeserve doesn't like it. What fs will do is
connect at higher then 38400 though.

So now we've got a "mochine" that's smokin' along pretty fast and
impressively on freeserve.co.uk BUT! Insight e-mail don't work!

So, what's the problem? It's something in the acf and cfg files about
mail path I seem to recall, but I can't quite get it right. Can
somebody (Clarence or Or or whomever) [been wanting to use that "or
OR or" bit for ages!] refresh my memory as to what the mailpath thing
is again please?

Regards

Mel
