MS-DOS 5.0? Don't know where I'd find that these days. I was thinking of
either an earlier version of DR-DOS or maybe FreeDos, that way I'd have
a Microsoft free system. I don't use any form of Windows.
This is for the the 486dx66 that somebody gave me a year ago. I just
had it sorted out and its now almost ready to go. (still has some
memory problem) Should have 32 megs, but is only showing 8.
I've always used MS-DOS 6.22, which I'm accustomed to and have a
reluctance to give up. But if there were a real advantage to using
a different DOS for this new machine, I might give it a go.

I think it depends on what you are using the computer for. Mostly I
do email with Pine from a shell account. There wouldn't be much
advantage to faster hardware for that. But the graphic rich
museumsites that I like to peruse would certainly come up faster
on more capable hardware.
Of course there is something to be said about doing things slowly
and having time to think.
