I appreciate this; I've saved all this info. And I need it. I had
installed on
that computer a little program called GUI from a no-name (and probably
defunct) software company. Runs under DOS, but acts a bit like Microsoft
BOB, if you're familiar with that one. You start with any picture you like
(converted to .PCX format), and you sensitize parts of the picture to be
links
to programs or text files. (You can also link to more pictures, which can
contain further links.) You set it up so it loads on bootup and is the
first
thing you see. When you click on a link (you don't need a mouse; cursor
keys work) you go to that program, and when you're through, the picture
reappears.

I set up Arachne as one of the links, forgetting that GUI is resident in
DOS memory and takes up some space. Arachne loads when launched from
GUI, but won't pull up certain graphics, etc. Checking memory last night
(after I
launched & went directly to Yahoo), I found I was already in the !!! range.
Rebooting and launching it without GUI, I was in the + range. Sounds like
all I can
do from GUI is have a note pop up, reminding me to Exit to DOS and what the
.BAT
filename might be. Or, I could explore that alternate Arachne 1.66 CORE.EXE
that
doesn't contain hi-color and other things I don't need.

Thanks.
