No two ways about it, files download faster with the 'persistent'
feature put into 1.68
But ... I've run into a glitch with pages which include only a single
image, and that image is a jpg file:
The image downloads, and Arachne freezes temporarily at 100% ... by
freeze I mean there isn't even a cursor visible.
But Arachne then doesn't process the "embedded object."
At least it doesn't process it unless you hit R, or do left click on
where the graphic is supposed to be.
If you click or R the image shows up just fine -- most of the time.
Part of the time Arachne shows 100% download, bytes match, but only a
partial bmp is displayed. It's not a flawed original jpg because, with
teasing and persistence on the part of the user, a full bmp file can be
made to appear which shows the entire jpg file.
I'm not talking about downloading with images turned off -- I want to
make that clear. I have auto-load images, and I see them being
downloaded in their entirety by Arachne. It's just that Arachne then
does not process the images.
Is it a memory problem? No way ... on the website in question I had
137K memory available -- more than enough.
Main site where I found this persistent problem:
http://www.truck-central.com
Click on the thumbnails in bottom half of page to see the "single jpg
pages" where Arachne wouldn't load bmp to screen without nudging.
