This was addressed to Sam Heywood, but I'll venture this comment.

When I lived in New York there were quite a few women--good looking ones
at that -- who weren't really female at all, but simply "impersonators".

As in this old song "Lola" by the Kinks:

"I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walks like a woman
And talks like a man."
