Of course I know that there aren't any women who are not female,
and that using the word "female" as an adjective to further describe
a woman is unnecessary and redundant. Nevertheless, such usage is
frequently encountered among the folks who populate the Blue Ridge hill
country where I live. The expression "female woman" is used mainly as
a matter of emphasis to draw attention to the fact that there is a
difference between women and other humans. It is wrong for anyone to
even think about attempting to correct any of us folks by insinuating
that the difference is not especially remarkable and highly deserving of
special attention.
