et al,
We beta test these new releases and it is our DUTY <g> to dig
around in Arachne and view it with a highly critical eye...BUT..(here
comes my usual "but") sometimes we lose sight of some very obvious
pluses that we enjoy in Arachne.
I am religiously running 1.69 for all my surfing needs, except for
those that require secure connections, or javajunk capabilities.
I do this, first because I feel committed to do so, and second
because I want to wring as much functionality out of Arachne as I
can. The more I use it, the more I find it can do....and the more
I find to contrast it with the Blowsers.
One of the very best characteristics of Arachne is its technique
of always reloading from the disk, instead of going back to a big,
bloated webpage to get a page we KNOW is already in cache. I have
noticed IExploder 4.x, IExploder3.03, NetsKerplunker4.08 all going
back out to the webpage again, whenever I click on the "back" arrow,
or do ALT-LeftArrow. This is annoying, and wastes my time and net
resources. Arachne handles this sensibly, and does so in a host
of other ways...This makes my surfing enjoyable or, at least,
sufferable.
I have recently signed up with such puke-sites (exclusive "why
don't you upgrade your browser" type sites) using Arachne (if I
could) or going in to register using NN4.08. After the initial
register (even experience this with www.deja.com) I can use my
Arachne for all but one or two things (mostly involving javajunk
or secure connections).
So, in the midst of our picky picking apart of each new Arachne
release, let's try to maintain our joy by remembering WHY we use
Arachne, and not some other clunk....<g>
