Hi Guys,

It may interest you to know that as well as the .gif format being
"owned" by AOL following their acquisition of Cserve, that the hyperlink
is owned by British Telecom!

Apparently back in the days not long after Tim B did the whole thing and
got the internet concept started, some bright spark at BT looked at the
concept, checked out the hyperlink on both text and image format, and
then promptly patented the link! So, every link you have on your pages
(and everyone elses) could be shut down by the patent holders, British
Telecoms.

Quite how they would manage to police and collect the dues for use of
the patent I have no idea, but they do have a legal title to the idea of
the hyperlink.
