Hello Howard and Clarence,
To solve my email problems I've signed up with a new ISP. I was
unable to send mail over the weekend because the SMTP server at
the old ISP was not working properly. Neither are their 800 numbers
for customer support and rumour has it that they are losing money and
are soon to go out of business.
Bignet.com had bought out over 100 small ISP's over the past three
years, mostly with stock in the big company. That stock will soon
be worthless if they go bankrupt, which seems quite likely.
Their dial-in numbers are now mostly busy. Myrealbox.com was a
workaround for me to get a POP box that I could use easily while
trying to sort out a jammed inbox and other problems at the old
ISP.
Now about authentication and myrealbox.com. They did send me a memo
explaining how things would work. They are doing reverse name lookups
on all incoming mail. If there is no name asociated with the IP
address then they require authentication.
If you guys are interested I can dig out and send you the memo that
explains the whole thing.
